Patna Municipal Corporation
The Patna Municipal Corporation was established on the 15th August 1952, in accordance with The Patna Municipal Corporation Act, 1951, which was published in the Bihar Gazettes Extraordinary No.249 the 30th July 1952, by the Govt. Of Bihar in their Notification No. L.S.G. 1088/52 Leg-538 dated 26th July 1952.
The first election of the councilors were completed in March 1954, but they came in office on the 1st February 1955.
PMC Preamble
To consolidate and amend the laws relating to the municipal governments in the state of Bihar in conformity with the provisions of the constitution of India as amended by the Constitution (Seventy-fourth Amendment) Act, 1992, based on the principles of participation in, and decentralization, autonomy and accountability of, urban self-government at various levels, to introduce reforms in financial management and accounting systems, internal resource generation capacity and organizational design of Municipalities, to ensure professionalization of the municipal personnel, and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

BIA urges FM to grant special category status to B
In a pre-budget memorandum to finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, the Bihar Industries Association (BIA) has sought a special category status for Bihar so that the state could attract private investments worth Rs 1.08 lakh crore through incentives. BIA president K P Jhunjhunwala said Bihar is not able to compete with other states in attracting investment and so it needed the special category status on the pattern of North-Eastern states to kickstart development through tax.

Advani demands inquiry commission on 26/11 attacks
Taking up the issue of national security while speaking on the President’s address in Lok Sabha on Friday, L K Advani demanded a commission enquiry on the 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai, while appreciating the government’s “zero tolerance” proclamation on terror.

Top-pilot tag only for 5 years: DGCA
In a move that has got ace pilots up in arms, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has made the posts of examiners/instructors/check pilots in scheduled and non-scheduled airlines fixed for a tenure of five years. This will especially affect examiners, the seniormost pilots in any airline and selected on the basis of their knowledge, unblemished record and fairness; they remained examiners for life.

Is MCI party to med colleges selling seats?
Even as questions swirl over the impunity with which private medical colleges are charging illegal donations despite an explicit Supreme Court ban, it now appears members of the apex regulatory body — the Medical Council of India (MCI) — themselves have strong links with the offending institutions.

BSEB woos NRIs, seeks investment
Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) has, through its web site, invited NRIs to invest in energy sector as per the provisions in Electricity Act of 2003. The state government has given several incentives to the investors, including facilitating quick acquisition and transfer of land, assured water supply, power purchase agreement, letter of credit facility for payment security, concessions in stamp duty and registration fee and single window system for statutory clearance.
